MANILA - Prayers and support continue to pour for former President Cory Aquino as she faces one of the hardest battles of her life.

Margie Lobusta wrote in coryaquino.ph that she already admired Cory "for being the Democracy Icon" when she was only a grade school student.

"You fought for the right for all Filipinos. You serve the Philippines not for your own interest but for the benefit of everybody. You are really the woman of courage and strength. You set a good example to the young Filipinos. You are a real hero. Many Filipinos here and in abroad are praying for your full recovery," Lobusta said.

High school student John Christian Dinco left a message that said, "Madam President, lumaban po kayo! Kailangang-kailangang kayo ng sambayanang Pilipino! Kayo ay isang huwarang ina! Patuloy na po sana kayong gumaling. Ako po ay tumitingala sa inyong kagalingan."

Pages have also been created in networking sites such as Facebook, such as Tie A Yellow Ribbon for the Mother of the Philippine Democracy-Cory Aquino, which has around 2,082 members.

Orion Constantino, one of the members of the group in Facebook, commented that Cory is equal to freedom. "Even though hindi ko siya inabutan nung nagse-serve pa sya as president...I appreciate everything she's done for every single Filipino out there. It really makes me proud to be one because of people like her."

Pinky Wilson Leelin also wrote that she has been praying the rosary everyday for Cory's recovery. There are also numerous messages of prayers hoping that the pain the president is experiencing will go away.

"Madam Pres. Cory, I will pray that Mother Mary will place you under her mantle of protection and you'll be be shielded from all pain...You are an inspiration to women and mothers," Susan Mendiola wrote.

Filipinos from across the globe have also been leaving their comments of support for "the bravest Filipina" they have ever known and the "beacon in this most trying times."

Tweets and twibbons

Tweets have also flooded with support and high remarks for Cory.

WomenVote_2010 wrote: "I'm sort of an EDSA 1 baby. Grew up looking up to her. For everything she's done, for setting an example, I'll always be thankful."

Niko Batalliones also tweeted, "She has fought for the country with all that she has, and for that, I am grateful."

There are also humorous tweets, like Cory's condition deteriorated when President Gloria Arroyo prayed for her. Another said a certain lawmaker wearing a huge yellow ribbon looked like "a walking old oak tree."

As a gesture of support for the ailing president, supporters from the online community have been placing yellow ribbons in their blog sites and social networking accounts since June 24, the day when Mrs. Aquino's condition became unstable.

The call for posting yellow ribbons online started with Reyna Elena of Barrio Siete (http://barriosiete.com/touch-a-blogger-tie-a-yellow-ribbon-for-cory-aquino/) on July 23, heeding the call of Aquino supporters to tie a yellow ribbon as a way of expressing support for the country's first female president.

As of posting, Reyna Elena has linked 57 blog sites with yellow ribbons.

coryaquino.ph also has downloadable yellow ribbons that can be placed in profile pictures.

In social networking site Twitter, users are not only coloring their photos in hues of yellow, there are also donning yellow "twibbons." According to Twitter, twibbons are "the easiest way to promote awareness of your cause on twitter" and are placed on the user's profile photo.

Cory's famed yellow ribbon was made into a twibbon by Ederic Eder, a Filipino blogger. Two days after twibbon was put up in the site, 3,440 already used it in their accounts.
