For ABS-CBN Managing Director Cory Vidanes, the youth sector is the most elusive market today. With the emergence of news trends and technologies, they are 'hard-to-please' and the hardest to catch in terms of viewership.
During an open forum, the student delegates revealed that they barely watch television because of their busy schedules and that they rely more on the Internet for research and access to their favorite videos and music.
These were some of the important points raised by communication arts and journalism student delegates to the 4th Pinoy Media Congress, where media professionals led by ABS-CBN executives, academicians, and students discussed current issues and trends in media and communications at the St. Cecilia's Hall of St Scholastica's College in Manila last Thursday and Friday.
Over 900 delegates attended this annual forum organized by ABS-CBN and the Philippine Association of Communication Educators (PACE).
"Media is very dynamic and so is our audiences. It is important to us as the biggest broadcasting network to hear their voices especially that of the youth which nowadays are very proactive and very critical on what they see on television," said ABS-CBN Corporate Communications Division Head Bong Osorio at the opening of the two-day forum.
ABS-CBN Managing Director Cory Vidanes explained to the students how the Kapamilya network is sensitive to viewers' feedback as they continuously come up with a program mix that will cater to the needs and wants of the Filipino households.
"We constantly exert an effort to set a trend in programming. We tend to mix various genres to appeal to as many audiences as we can," she said.
Other speakers include ABS-CBN President Charo Santos Concio, Vivian Tin, Maria Ressa, Charie Villa, Peter Musngi, March Ventosa, Raul Bulaong, Ces Drilon, and Maria Java-Cuizon.
Pinoy Dream Academy scholars Miguel Mendoza, Liezl Garcia, Bugoy Drilon and PDA Season 2 Grand Star Dreamer Laarni Lozada also graced the event by rendering song numbers.
The 4th Pinoy Media Congress was made possible through the efforts of ABS-CBN's Corporate Communications Division in cooperation with PACE, St. Scholastica's College, MASSCOMM and Studio 23.
