Do we all Filipino know what is a Sona? What is its purpose? And how important is it in our lives and economic status? For other people its enough to say that Sona is a State of the Nations Address, but they doesn’t know what really is it and how it affect their lives.
As far as I know and understand of what is a Sona, it is the yearly activity to be done by the president of the Republic of the Philippines to update the situation of the economy and how people’s lives have changed over the years. Its not enough to show the numbers and statics being presented that even some of the officials in the government didn’t understand and don’t know how it happened! How much more the ordinary people like us?
Last Monday, July 27,2009 the Sona has been done by Gloria Macapagal- Arroyo. Mostly of the Filipinos are not convinced and doubtful about what she had stated.
In my part, I’m not 100% convince too about all what she said but I can say that her government is better that the previous government. And why? Its because we can see although not all but some projects that had been done by her governance like the South Road Project in Cebu, the P1,000 peso each for the Senior Citizens and for those poor people, the RORO which is useful for those traveling with agricultural products and few job opportunities like the call centers and etc.
Of course we cant expect too much from her especially she is only one. We in ourselves know that we should help each other to improve our lives. I can say its true that she partly decreases our debt from other country, for example we can see it by the change of rate in our peso to dollars nowadays. Remember when its Erap time the change rate of our peso to dollar is up to P56 to P57 peso US dollar which is not really good to our economy although we can say that in his time the per kilo of rice is cheaper that nowadays.
Why people said that Arroyo don’t want to step down as a president? Don’t they understand this?
"At the end of this speech, I shall step down from this stage but not from the presidency. My term does not end until next year," she said.
In my part I fully understand what she had stated. Of course because her term still until next year which is 2010. And theres a law that she cant run again as president unless she will form a new a government. Who knows? But of course every president that governs us in the past years have negative and positive effects. I cant say that she did not corrupt and maybe she just want to be a president only for power and pleasure and maybe some of the things she said is not true like the real situation of the economy. Anyway I cant really blame her for our situation now because global crisis is now all over around the world that even the rich countries also experiencing like Singapore and USA.
And one thing for my fellow Filipinos we should remember and observe it. Why does in every president we elect we say that he/she is the best but in the end we still want him/her to step down because we are not satisfied what she/he doing. We always looking for something that they don’t have. We want our lives to be more better but instead we go to work we are in the streets always in a rally. As I had observe since my young age when we people are suffering in hunger, we are homeless, jobless, could not afford to go to school and got some sickness we are always to blame the president! I really don’t understand. In her Sona last Monday Arroyo stated that she had contributed P1,000peso monthly to the poor. We all know that its not enough for our needs of course we must work hard for the rest and do our best instead of blaming other people. Like in school in public she allow those pupil to just simply wear clothes and not school uniforms to save more and instead buy uniform just use it for the other things needed.
In the end we are still the one going to face all this whatever she had said and done. We just hope and pray that what she stated is true even though some things we know already that its far from reality.
We must bear in our minds that it is not easy to manage a whole country in our own. Cooperation and hard work must go together to achieve our goals. I hope someday we can have a president that is honest, industrious, and dedicated in her job to serve rightfully the Filipino people. And not only the president as well as the other officials in the government. And we should remember WHOEVER sit as a president or whatever position if there is no unity, cooperation , honesty and hard work in each of us FILIPINO there will be no better life waiting for us.
