Arroyo gov't fails US aid firm's control of corruption test

Corruption does not only rob the Filipino people of its hard earned money but it deprives all Filipino what they deserve from proper education, health care, retirement benefit, etc.

In return, most Filipinos either got inflicted by this social cancer or had became frustratred and no longer participate in nation building. In both circumstances, they no longer respect the authority.

Those who were got inflicted contributed to the ill effect of corruption down to the barangay level. Thus, government processes remains poor unable to effectively serve the needs of the community. Government employees opted to sit down doing nothing since money will come anyway through the corruption channel most commonly called "lagay" in all its services instead of improving its operation and processes to better serve the community.

Thus, our community remain stagnant unable to advance into a modern society and adopt to the present needs. This contributes to poverty, illiteracy, crime among others.

It is sad to think about it. Most countries who are poorer than us 30 years ago and whose society are far less developed than us are now at present are far advance and richer than us. What they have and we have nothing is a corrupt free government and collective effort. We have all the resources but with a corrupt government, it would be hard to instill among Filipinos the attitude of "collective effort" and social responsibility.

This thinking should come from government leaders who should be at all means be a perfect role model. Gone are the days of true Statesman from Soc Rodrigo, Tanada, Recto, etc. Our country needs to evolve now or we can no longer reverse the ill effect of corruption. We need a true "Statesman" to lead our country. We need to bring back the era of "Statesman" and "Nationalist".
