Unemployed? 400,000 jobs open on May 1
MANILA – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is inviting the public to attend its nationwide job fair on Labor Day, where they say some 400,000 new jobs await applicants.
Director Nicon Fameronag of the Labor Communication Office says some 75 job fairs will be held nationwide on May 1, 16 of them at the National Capital Region.
DOLE has partnered with local mall giant SM, which will host most of the fairs in the metro.
DOLE says the job fairs are designed to be a one-stop shop where applicants can also secure documents from concerned government agencies relevant to their job hunt.
Local employment opportunities will be available for applicants both in government and in the private sector. Fameronag says they expect 15% of slots to be taken on the spot.
"Ang ginagawa namin dito, pinapabilis namin ang pagkikita ng mga manggagawa at employer by putting them in one area. This way, hindi magastos at mahirap maghanap ng trabaho," says Fameronag.
DOLE says most available jobs at the moment are in the hotel and restaurant industry, business process outsourcing or call centers, information technology, marketing, agribusiness, construction, manufacturing, transportation, and real estate.
"Please pre-register in our local offices if you can so we can match your skills and preferences to the employer. On the day itself, wake up early, dress comfortably, and bring all of your relevant documents and identification," Fameronag says.
"Mag-apply kayo sa maraming employers para mas malaki din ang chance na matanggap."
