MANILA – Rene Boy Curado, who lives a floor above the Two Serendra condominium unit that exploded Friday night, said the blast shook the building and the condo was filled with smoke.

Curado said he went out the balcony of his unit and thought of jumping due to panic.

“Lumabas ako sa balcony, gusto ko nang tumalon kasi nataranta na rin ako. Narinig ko ‘yung mga tao at nakita ko na umiiyak sila,” he said.

Curado was not hurt in the incident, but was forced to evacuate the building after the blast.

Residents are not allowed to go back to their units while the investigation is still on going.

Initial investigations showed that the blast occurred in unit 501, allegedly occupied by a certain Angelito San Juan. He is currently in the intensive care unit (ICU) at St. Luke's Medical Center Global City after sustaining burns.

An amateur video following the blast showed a man on top of a wrecked delivery truck.

Rescuers had a hard time retrieving the body after a collapsed slab hit their vehicle.

Their truck was passing by when the blast happened. Three bodies were retrieved after more than three hours.

The families of the fatalities are still in shock over the incident.
