Miriam: Abolish Congress, commit hara-kiri
Die, Miriam tells pork scandal-linked senators
MANILA (UPDATE) - Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago can't wait to question Janet Lim Napoles if and when she attends the Senate inquiry on the pork barrel scandal.
Apparently fed up by the controversy, Santiago also dished out harsh words against her colleagues.
Santiago also advised her colleagues linked to the alleged pork barrel scam to kill themselves.
She was on her first day back at the Senate since the 16th Congress opened.
Despite suffering from chronic fatigue syndrome, Santiago said she has been monitoring senators' statements on the pork barrel scandal.
She is dismayed with what she calls as their excuses.
"When I'm watching, I tell my household to buy me a vial of poison, prepare a necktie for me or piece of rope, or just [turn off] the TV. I want to die," she said.
Santiago said senators allegedly involved in the scam are understandably silent.
"They have a rule of omerta. They have to zip their mouths. No one should say anything. The first one to open his mouth will get a bullet between his eyes," she said.
Santiago said the lawmakers tagged in the multibillion-peso scam should "die, eat (blank) and die."
Santiago said senators who are not being implicated in the controversy should also be ashamed about the scandal.
"Let's just abolish Congress and commit hara-kiri (suicide by disembowelment). You owe it to the Filipino people. We should all wear our Filipino robes and bow in front of TV and hara-kiri ourselves. The whole system is just so bad. We are really, really sick or morally sick, mentally sick. The higher the positions, the higher their mental sickness," she said.
Santiago also said the affidavits of whistleblowers are enough basis to file plunder charges against those involved in the scam.
Although the testimony of Napoles is vital, Santiago said it is not necessary in being able to file charges against legislators.
But Santiago said the businesswoman is crucial in identifying lawmakers who she believes are the real masterminds behind the pork barrel scam.
Santiago also vowed to attend the Senate inquiry if Napoles shows up.
Her first question for the businesswoman, "Ano ang pinakamahal na handbag? Alam kasi niya eh."
Meanwhile, Senator Tito Sotto has given up his pork barrel for the remainder of his term.
He has directed that it be allotted to state universities and hospitals instead. - ANC
