ABS-CBNNews.com hits new web traffic record
7.1M unique browsers, 54.5M page views, 9.8M unique visitors in August
Pork barrel scam, 'habagat' more interesting to netizens than May 2013 polls
MANILA - ABS-CBNNews.com recorded its all-time highest web traffic in August 2013 as it kept its number one ranking among the top Philippine general news websites based on Effective Measure (EM).
EM is the common provider of audience measurement analytics of Philippine online publishers.
For the Philippine audience alone, ABS-CBNNews.com had 3.96 million unique browsers (no. 1), 5.25 million unique visitors (no. 1), and 24.3 million page views (no. 1) for August.
For the worldwide audience, ABS-CBNnews.com had 7.1 million unique browsers (no. 1), 9.82 million unique visitors (no. 1), and 54.54 million page views (no. 1).
Fueled by stories about the pork barrel scam and Janet Lim Napoles, "habagat" and floods, and entertainment-celebrity stories such as the Chito Miranda sex video scandal, ABS-CBNNews.com's performance during the month surpassed its own numbers during the May 2013 elections period in both EM and Google Analytics.
Ranking by unique browsers is deemed important because EM assigns a unique cookie ID to a viewer's web browser (or device) when the person visits an EM-audited site, drawing data to an almost 1-viewer-to-1 web browser or device.
The 7.1 million unique browsers of ABS-CBNnews.com for August is the highest recorded for a month by any Philippines news site, including for May 2013 which was when the mid-term elections were held.
In comparison, GMA Network, including its online news website, recorded 4.9 million unique browsers (no. 2), 6.6 million unique visitors (no. 2), and 35.52 million page views (no. 3) worldwide in August, according to EM data.
Among Philippine general news websites this August, Philstar.com is in third place overall with 4.8 million unique visitors and 3.6 million unique browsers, but placed higher than GMA Network in number of page views with 35.57 million worldwide.
ANC.yahoo.com also had its first calendar month and is now 3rd among ABS-CBN websites after ABS-CBNnews.com and iWanTV.com.ph.
Nearly 50% of ABS-CBNNews.com's visitors are in the Philippines, with the rest from North America, the Middle East, Asia, Australia, and Europe.
A total of 331,750 people have installed ABS-CBNNews.com's mobile iOS app, and another 236,534 are using its Android app version.
ABS-CBN News' official YouTube channel earlier hit the one-million subscriber mark.
The ABS-CBN News Online channel, which hosts content from the country's largest television network, has more than 1.15 million subscribers as of August.
The channel also had more than 229.5 million lifetime views as of August.
No Philippine news content producer comes close to the subscriber base and lifetime views of ABS-CBNnews.com on YouTube.
ABS-CBN News' social media presence also continues to expand, with @ABSCBNNews having more than 1 million followers on Twitter and more than 783,000 followers "likes" on Facebook as of August 2013.
The @ABSCBNNews account has, over these past months, consistently attained the highest score in Klout -- which is a way to measure overall social media influence -- over any other Philippine-based news organization and program with presence in the social media.
Other social media accounts within the ABS-CBN Integrated News and Current Affairs, such @ANCAlerts (with over 915,000 followers), @DZMMTeleRadyo (with over 200,000 followers), @TVPatrol (with over 436,000 followers) and @Bandila (with over 208,000 followers) , are all consistently among top scorers in Klout.
Followers of the @ABSCBNNews and its specialized news accounts (such as @ABSCBNBreaking, @ABSCBN_Showbiz, @ABSCBNNewsSport) on Twitter number to 2.2 million, while their parallel accounts on Facebook have gathered 1 million "likes" as of August 2013.
These exclude the social media accounts of flagship ABS-CBN news programs TV Patrol, Bandila and Umagang Kay Ganda. These also do not include the social media accounts of the citizen journalism arm Bayan Mo, iPatrol Mo (BMPM), and ABS-CBN’s corporate Facebook account.
BMPM has 155,041 followers on Twitter, and 325,169 "likes" on Facebook.
ABS-CBN’s corporate Facebook account, "ABSCBNnetwork", meanwhile, has 3.5 million "likes".
