Chiz, JPE okay move to realign PDAF
MANILA - Majority and minority senators are backing the proposal of Senate President Franklin Drilon to realign the remaining pork barrel funds of senators as calamity funds for disaster victims.
Sen. Francis "Chiz" Escudero said the senators will discuss in a caucus what they plan to do in connection with realigning or augmenting calamity funds for Bohol.
Escudero is the chairman of the Senate finance committee who will give the final version of an earlier resolution by Drilon to re-align the remaining 2013 priority development assistance funds (PDAF).
He said the senators will still have to agree among themselves how this will be done and where to get the money if it will come from the Senate's savings or remaining PDAF.
Escudero said he personally does not see anything wrong with re-aligning the remaining 2013 PDAF to the calamity fund unless the courts will stop them from doing so.
The senator is also for the total abolition of the 2014 PDAF. "Kung talagang gustong tanggalin, dapat kada taon, bantayan yan," he said.
He said it is possible that the pork barrel might just be given another name.
Meanwhile, Senate Minority Leader Juan Ponce Enrile also said he agrees with Drilon's proposal. "Okay yun, yung remaining balance of the PDAF ng legislators," he said.
He also said that the 2014 PDAF of politicians should be itemized and should be decided upon by the department heads of the implementing agencies.
"Tanggalin na yung allocation ng pulitiko. It will be the responsibility of the department to implement," he said.
