Automated polls in 7 areas abroad, Comelec says

MANILA, Philippines - Automated voting will be held in 7 areas overseas during the May 13, 2013 elections, a Commission on Elections (Comelec) official said Wednesday.

The areas are Hong Kong, Singapore, Abu Dhabi, Jeddah, Kuwait, Dubai, and Riyadh, said Comelec Commissioner Lucenito Tagle.

He added that 36 additional Precinct Count Optical Scan (PCOS) machines have been requested for the areas.

Each of the posts have at least 20,000 registered voters.

Comelec officials were set to meet on Monday to discuss guidelines and training of diplomatic personnel on the use of PCOS machines.

Of the 7 areas listed above, Hong Kong has the highest concentration of registered voters at 101,482, followed by Singapore which has 36,323 registered voters and Abu Dhabi which has 21,418 registered voters.
