“This event was organized to encourage success, to encourage...for people, Filipinos to excel in their craft. Awards always inspire achievement,” said Mutch Carino, creative director of the Image Awards.
Awardees include theater legend Bernardo Bernardo, maestro Robert Shroder, and ABS-CBN North America News Bureau correspondent Steve Angeles for fashion and look, an award he once never thought of achieving.
“I ballooned up to like 240 pounds after college and so when I started working in ABS I was like a big boy but I never thought about it then someone actually dared me. With some good work out and discipline I lost some weight,” Angeles said.
According to recent surveys, in the US, this 2013, weight loss tops the New Year’s resolution list.
Angeles, who was 80 pounds heavier eight years ago says, he was once among those who make losing weight their New Year's resolution, but has now learned that there are no short cuts in achieving this goal and lifestyle change is the way to go.
“You got to put your mind set that it's better and more fulfilling to live a healthier lifestyle you actually feel good after. And you kind of change some of your habits and the more you change your habits, the more consistent it becomes, the more you'll see the results,” he said.
With more confidence and improved overall well-being, Angeles this year aims to maintain his healthy weight, inspire others with his story, and even better himself.
But more than just the physical aspect, for many here like Angeles, they say it's more important for people to work on their inner side as well, not just as a New Year’s resolution but everyday, to strive to have a sound body, mind and spirit.
