Pinoy accused of molesting patient worked illegally in Canada
REDWOOD CITY, California - The Filipino nurse who was one of the accused in molesting a 98-year-old stroke patient in San Diego in 2011 was found to be working illegally in British Columbia, Canada when he was arrested two weeks ago.
At a hearing with Canada’s Immigration and Refugee Board on Monday, it emerged that Russel Torralba had been working for $175 a day without a work permit as a caregiver for a young boy with disabilities.
The violation bars Torralba from entering Canada for one year. But border security officials said they will take into consideration Torralba’s sex assault charges in San Diego during his deportation hearing set for February 3.
Torralba is wanted in California after he, and another Filipino nurse, Alfredo Ruiz, were caught on a surveillance camera molesting a patient.
Both were charged with felony elder neglect and felony lewd conduct by a caregiver on a dependent adult.
