TheFilam.net reported that Nové Deypalan, a native of Victorias City, Negros Occidental, will conduct for the PRISM Quartet. He was asked by composer Fang Man to conduct the world premiere of her new music "Dream of a Hundred Flowers."
"As the first Filipino American conductor at Carnegie Hall, I am honored to premiere ‘Dream of a Hundred Flowers’ in one of the most prestigious venues in the world," Deypalan said, as quoted by TheFilam.net.
Deyplan studied at UP College of Music under the tutelage of Ryan Cayabyab. He worked at the Cultural Center of the Philippines as a composer and conductor.
Fifteen years ago, he moved to the U.S., where he received a Bachelor of Music degree in conducting at the Chapman University, Orange, California. He pursued his Masters degree in Music at the University of Southern California, graduating magna cum laude.
"As a Filipino American musician, I’m proud of my heritage and grateful for the rich culture of the Philippines," he said.

Pinoys in Carnegie...
As a Fil-Am, we take pride in all accomplishments of our Kababayans. As a New Yorker, I'm proud that once again, a Filipino takes center-stage. However, we would just like to note that there had been other Fil-Ams who had conducted in the famous Carnegie Hall. I believe the honor of being the first Fil-Am would have to go to Michael Dadap who had a debut performance in 1974.
Also worth noting is a young and rising NY base Fil-Am Conductor. Christian Marc Rondilla Alonzo, who at age 21 made his debut performance at Carnegie Hall in Oct. 2010, followed by another in Nov 2011 and is also scheduled for another performance this coming fall. He could very well be the youngest Fil-Am to have conducted in Carnegie Hall.
Again, we take pride in the accomplishments of our FIL-AMS and it is truly a great honor to perform in Carnegie Hall. This correction does not take away from Maestro Deypalan’s accomplishments, just to set things straight so that no one may be misinformed in publishing the wonderful and great achievements of all our countrymen.
We wish you the best and may our FIL-AMS continue to bring honor to our people.
