HOLLYWOOD - Starting from its 2010 debut, viewers got hooked on "The Killing," a thriller drama about the death of a young girl and the lives of the detectives who are investigating the crime.

"The Killing," which aired on AMC for three seasons, was helmed by creator, writer and executive producer Veena Sud.

Sud, who is based in Canada, is one of the very few female producers of color in Hollywood.

Her father is from New Delhi, India, and met his Filipina wife in the U.S.

Sud wrote her first screenplay at 16. The Killing's first season was a huge ratings and critical success.

It brought Sud and the show's stars six Emmy nominations in 2011.

In a previous interview with The Killing's lead star Mireille Enos, she praised Sud who gave the actress her biggest break in the show as the tough yet vulnerable detective Sarah Linden.

"She's a brilliant woman, an incredible writer and I feel so lucky to work with her every day," Enos said.

After three seasons on AMC, Sud will lead the final season of "The Killing" in its new home on Netflix.

Apart from Enos, Joel Kinnaman returns on the show as Linden's partner Detective Holder. Kinnaman is also the star of the up-coming "Robocop" film remake which comes out this month.
