MANILA, Philippines - The body of Negros Occidental Rep. Ignacio "Iggy" Arroyo will have to remain in London a little longer.
The UK court has set a trial on Feb. 20 to determine who between Aleli Arroyo, Iggy's legal wife, and his live-in partner, Grace Ibuna, has rightful claim over his remains.
Based on the last will and testament of Iggy, Ibuna has this right, but there are complications since the will was made in San Francisco while Iggy died in London.
Iggy wished to be buried in Manila.
The British court has asked Ibuna's camp to hire a legal expert from the Philippines who can give them opinion on the matter and guide the court in its decision on the case. - ANC

No complications
Even if the will was made in California, it is valid under Philippine law.According to Art. 815 of the New Civil Code, when a Filipino is in a foreign country, he is authorized to make a will in any of the forms established by the law of the country in which he may be. Such will may be probated in the Philippines.Iggy Arroyo’s will is valid provided it conforms to the forms and solemnities of American law. He may disinherit Alei Arroyo, (2) when the spouse has accused the testator of a crime for which the law prescribes imprisonment of six years or more, and the accusation has been found to be false; and(4) when the spouse has given cause for legal separation.
Alei Arroyo had accused Iggy Arroyo of attempted murder in 2006 ,which was proven false. Alei had also given cause for legal separation ( the annulment is pending before the court and cites various reasons for annulment).
