REDWOOD CITY, California – A new movement to honor a Filipino-Canadian Olympian’s unselfish act has begun.

Across Canada fans are calling on long track speedskater Gilmore Junio to be the flag bearer at the Winter Olympics closing ceremony later this month.

Last week, Junio gave up his spot to teammate Denny Morrison. He believed Morrison had a better chance at winning a medal in the 1,000 meter long track speed skating event.

Morrison won silver thanks to Junio’s sacrifice.

Morrison himself started the movement to have his teammate honored.

He also said that he would cut his silver medal in half to share with Junio.
