Pinoys in Rome offer Mass, prayers for Pope Benedict
ROME - Filipino priests of Collegio Filipino and Sentro Pilipino Chaplaincy in Rome offered a thanksgiving mass in Basilica of Santa Pudenziana for the service done by Pope Benedict XVI for the whole Catholic Church.
Fr. Gregory Ramon Gaston, Rector of Collegio Filipino said the mass also includes prayers for the upcoming Conclave of the Cardinals.
"Ito ay thanksgiving mass para kay Pope Benedict sa kanyang service sa ating simbahan at pinagdadasal din natin ang mga cardinals na sa kanilang preparation sa pag elect ng Holy Father," said Gaston.
Devotees in Rome joined in the mass organized by the Embassy to the Holy See.
In the prayers of the faithful, Filipinos prayed in different dialects for the Pope's health and for the new Pope. In the homily, Gaston, reminisced the times he met the Pope and the good things done by Pope Benedict XVI for the Catholic Church.
February 24 will be the last Angelus of Pope Benedict XVI in St. Peter's Square, while the last Papal Audience is scheduled on February 27, Wednesday, at the Basilica of Vatican.
This, as the Pope's resignation takes effect on February 28.
Cardinals from different countries are expected to arrive in Rome before or on February 28 to give their farewell to Pope Benedict.
"Bago mag February 28 or 27 sa last audienece ng Pope ay andito na ang mga cardinal para sa farewell to the Pope at pwede ng magsimula ang prayer and reflection," said Gaston.
Election of the new Pope will be done through secret voting at the Sistine Chapel. Gaston said the voting will be twice in the morning and twice in the afternoon until cardinals can select a new Pope.
The result of the voting will be made known to the public through the smoke emanating from a chimney: if it is white smoke, it means there is already a new Pope chosen but if it is black then there must be a re-election.
"It will be twice in the morning until makakuha sila ng vote kung wala pa rin sa hapon twice din. At ang kanilang ballots na sinulatan pagkatapos ng voting ay sinusunog at naglalagay sila ng chimney para ang usok ay lumilitaw doon sa labas pagwhite smoke na ibig sabihin nakapag elect na ng Pope," said Gaston.
Filipinos in Rome are all waiting for the new Pope of the Catholic Church.
