61 more Pinoys return home from Syria
MANILA – Sixty-one Filipinas who worked as domestic helpers in war-torn Syria arrived Saturday morning at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
One of them, Amida Kakim, worked for five years in Damascus.
She was treated by airport medical personnel as she was suffering from hypertension.
“Karamihan sa amin ay sumabog ang bahay ng amo namin,” she said.
Marissa Butuan does not want to return to Syria while the civil war is still on going in the country she considered her second home.
“Kung walang giyera hindi ako natatakot pero kung may giyera, hindi natin alam kung anong mangyari sa atin doon,” she said.
Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) personnel are providing all immigration documents needed by the repatriated overseas Filipino workers.
OWWA will also give them financial help.
“Ang mga miyembro natin sa OWWA ay makakatanggap ng P10,000 as cash relief,” said OWWA administrator Carmelita Dimzon.
There are now 3,648 repatriated Pinoys from Syria since the civil war erupted. – ANC
