MANILA, Philippines - Philippine authorities now coordinating with their counterpart in Yemen to verify the reported kidnapping of three Filipino seafarers by Yemeni tribesmen in the central province of Marib.

"Our officials who are in Sanaa, Yemen are now getting in touch with Yemen authorities, employer, and Filipino leaders to verify the report, ascertain their identities and seek help for their immediate release," said in the text message of foreign affairs spokesperson, Assistant Secretary Raul Hernandez.
Agence France-Presse reported on Thursday that the kidnappers were demanding that one of their own be released from jail in exchange for the seafarers' freedom.
The kidnappers allegedly belong to the Bani Jabr tribe.
The report said the Pinoy seamen were seized while on their way to a port in Marah province where they were supposed to board their ship.
The Pinoy were forced to travel by land after their flight from the capital was canceled due to a sand storm, the report added.
