US senator's Fil-Am liaison has no criminal record
CALIFORNIA – The Filipino dentist who reportedly became California Senator Leland Yee's liaison to an illegal arms dealer in Mindanao had no criminal history.
Wilson Sy Lim, who practices in Daly City, California, has not spoken about the accusations against him. Lim is a former San Mateo County Commissioner and a staunch political supporter of Yee.
Yee, who has since been suspended by the California Senate, reportedly brokered an illegal weapons deal from Mindanao for an undercover agent posing as a member of the mafia.
He introduced the 60-year-old Lim as the man who could deliver weapons from the Philippine military, which even included rocket launchers and machine guns.
Lim was arrested and charged with conspiring to traffic in firearms.
He has since been released on a $50,000 bail.
Court records also show that Lim has had financial problems and even had a recent heart attack.
A 137-page affidavit shows that Yee and Lim were trying to broker an initial deal worth about $2 million. Yee reportedly got into this illegal transaction to get more money for his campaign as California Secretary of State. Since this scandal, Yee has withdrawn from the race.
