Batain's final wish: Education for kids, job for husband
MANILA, Philippines - For the first time, relatives of Elizabeth Batain, one of the three Filipinos executed in China for drug trafficking, faced the media.
ABS-CBN News was able to contact Batain's family in Quezon province, where the wake for Elizabeth has been taking place since Saturday, when her body arrived from China.
Her siblings said they want to keep the rest of the wake private, but they thanked all those who helped them through their ordeal
They said Elizabeth's only wish is for her two children to finish their studies, and for her husband Jun to get a permanent job.
She entrusted her children, a 6-year old and a 13-year old, to her siblings.
Her family is hoping that Elizabeth's death would push the goverment to prosecute people who take advantage of Filipinos and turn them into drug mules.
They also hope that this becomes a lesson for other Filipinos to say 'no' to these scams.
Earlier in the day, Kris Aquino and Anne Binay visited the family.
"I asked their permission if I could share w/ u that we went to condole w/ them. Nakiramay kami, nakinig sa kanila & now we'll continue praying," she tweeted after the visit.
"My heart really felt the pain when Elizabeth's child sang for me the song she sang for her mom when they said goodbye in China," she also said. Report from Henry Omaga-Diaz, ABS-CBN News
