DFA identifies Pinay abducted from Sabah resort
MANILA - The Department of Foreign Affairs has identified the Filipino kidnap victim in Malaysia.
The DFA identified the victim as Marcelita Dayawan. The 40-year old Pinay is a staff member of the Singamata Resort in Semporna in Sabah.
"Embassy officials are in touch with Ms. Dayawan's relatives and are extending consular assistance," the DFA said.
Philippine and Malaysian authorities are closely and actively working together to immediately rescue Dayawan and another Chinese tourist who were abducted by gunmen on Wednesday night.
"We continue to hope and pray for the immediate resolution of this incident and the safe return of the victims to their families," the DFA said.
The kidnappers may have taken their victims to southern Philippines.
In April 2000, the Abu Sayyaf took 21 tourists from the Malaysian resort island of Sipadan and brought them to Jolo. With a report from ANC
