MANILA - The Department of Foreign Affairs on Saturday said that a team has been sent to the city of Al Ain in the United Arab Emirates to get more information about the reported death of a Pinoy worker due to the MERS virus.

"I would like to confirm that our embassy in Abu Dhabi has dispatched a team to the city called Al Ain, which is one and half hours from Abu Dhabi, to coordinate with the hospital regarding the reported death of a Filipino paramedic of suspected MERS Virus," said DFA Spokesperson, Assistant Secretary Charles Jose.

Aside from the death of the Filipino worker, five other Pinoys reportedly have been infected with the disease.

"First, we have to identify these Filipino nationals and then we will extend to them all the necessary consular assistance," said Jose.

State news agency WAM reported on Friday that the Filipino first aid service personnel are working with the UAE Interior Ministry in the city of Al Ain.

"The team has confirmed that 5 other Filipino paramedics are under quarantine right now as a precaution," Jose said.

Jose added that the team is likewise verifying the actual cause of death of the Pinoy.

"We're still waiting for a detailed report from our team right now on the ground in Al Ain," he said.
