112 OFWs repatriated from Kuwait
MANILA, Philippines – A total of 112 distressed overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) have been repatriated from Kuwait, Vice President Jejomar Binay said Thursday.
The OFWs arrived Wednesday on board a Singapore Airlines flight SQ916 from Kuwait.
The OFWs are part of the 286 wards staying at the Fiipino Workers Resource Center (FWRC) in Kuwait. They were awarded amnesty by Amir Sheik Sabah Al-Ahmed A-Jaber Al Sabah.
A total of 104 OFWs earlier arrived home on March 17.
"Marami sa inyo ang hindi makapaniwala na kayo ay nakabalik na. Ang lahat ng ito ay bilang tugon sa utos ni
Pangulong Noynoy Aquino na huwag kayong pabayaan," Binay said in a press statement.
Binay said the remaining OFWs are set to come home once their plane tickets have been arranged.
The Vice President, also the Presidential Adviser on OFW Affiars, recently went to the Middle East with a hand-carried appeal from President Aquino to the Kuwaiti Amir to grant amnesty to OFWs charged with minor offenses.
"Malaki ang inyong sakrispisyo. Nagsimula 'yan noong umalis kayo at nawalay sa inyong mga pamilya para maghanapbuhay. Lamang, marami sa inyo ang hindi natupad ang pinapangarap. Pero ang importante ay nakabalik na kayo," said Binay.
Binay assured the repatriates, most of whom are household workers, that the government will assist them through its reintegration program.
