Family files 1st claim in Fil-Am teacher sex abuse case
REDWOOD CITY, California – The family of a 12-year-old Richmond, California boy made its first move in suing the charter school and county that hired Ron Guinto, the Fil-Am teacher charged last March with allegedly molesting his young male students.
The boy’s family claims that he was molested and harassed by Guinto and that negligent supervision at Making Waves Academy and at the Contra Costa County Office led to it.
Meanwhile, a parent in San Jose told local media that Guinto was the subject of a parent complaint when he was volunteering with an area Boy Scout troop.
A Boy Scouts representative said that Guinto has been permanently banned. Police are also looking into Guinto’s activities with the South Bay scouts and elsewhere.
Guinto pleaded not guilty to dozens of charges related to sex abuse and harassment of his young male students at Making Waves Academy in Richmond.
He was arrested in March after police learned he was hired as a teacher at a West Contra Costa County Elementary School in January while being investigated.
