PH Independence Day parade to be held in New York
MANILA - Filipinos in New York and in nearby states are in for a special treat as this year's celebration of the Philippine Independence Day parade brings together Filipino pride.
The Philippine Independence Day Council Inc. (PIDCI) said this year's theme is "Triumphs of the Filipinos: Pride of the Philippines".
"We owe that to the Filipinos’ strong family ties and genuine concern for one another, especially in times of hardship and natural disasters such as the onslaught of typhoon Haiyan last year,” said Fe Martinez, PIDCI president.
The event will feature an all-day street fair and cultural festival stretching from 38th Street down to 23rd Street and Madison Avenue on Sunday, June 1 from 11:45 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The roster of guests includes Black Eyed Peas co-founder apl.de.ap, boxing and mixed martial arts superstar Ana Julaton, and first Filipina Miss World, Megan Young.
Joining them in the event are OPM icons Kuh Ledesma, Cecile Azarcon, Edlyn Peregrina, Liro Vital, and Ogie Alcasid; and first Filipina Carnaval Queen in Brazil Bessie Badilla.
