Family of hit-and-run victim to sue NJ police
JERSEY CITY, New Jersey - The family of a hit-and-run victim plans to sue the New Jersey Police Department for alleged mishandling of the case.
Seventy-two year old Maria Concepcion Pintor Guce was on her way to work when a silver sports utility vehicle struck and killed her last April.
Police have not identified or arrested a suspect.
At her 40th day prayer service on Wednesday, the family learned that a traffic officer, and not a police investigator, was assigned to the case.
“Para bang napapabayaan, walang nangyayari, ganito nga 40 days na wala pa din,” said Roger Guce, the victim’s son.
He added, “Mag-fa-file kami ng formal complaint to do an investigation, we will also complain about the technicality why traffic officer lang yung nagha-handle, we will definitely question that.”
“We will demand for a qualified investigator to handle Ate Cion’s case,” said Rico Foz of the National Alliance for Filipino Concerns.
The family is also demanding the city government to find a way to make the dangerous intersection where Guce died safer for pedestrians. Balitang America
