TORONTO – Two men were sentenced to life imprisonment after being found guilty of first degree murder of a Filipino housekeeper in Mississauga in October 2007.

Crown prosecutors Steve Sherriff and Carrie Stoddard said suspects Christian Figueroa, 37, and Fabian Loayza-Penaloza, 40, forcibly confined and murdered Jocelyn Dulnuan during a “grand scale robbery”.

According to the prosecutors, Dulnuan was considered a “serious risk” and therefore had to be silenced.

Dulnuan was employed as a housekeeper in a 30,000 square foot mansion owned by Vasdev and Jaya Chanchlani.

Her lifeless body was discovered by her female employer, a doctor, who saw Dulnuan lying on the floor with blood around her mouth and a copper wire twice wrapped around her neck.

Reports said the 11 jurors need not be convinced who strangled Dulnuan. They were instead convinced beyond reasonable doubt that the suspects helped each other in committing the crime.

The lawyers of the accused Robert Tomovski and Paul Mergler tried in vain to convince the jury that it was a one man job. Both suspects were tried separately.

Dulnuan’s mother was advised to not to go to court. She was instead phoned by the police about the verdict. Balitang America
