Cops notify next of kin in Pinay, hubby's murder-suicide
Police have notified the next of kin of victims in the tragic murder suicide in Southern California.
Wayne Zickefoose, 54, and Filipino Herminia Gelanda Zickefoose, 39, were found dead from gunshot wounds in the head last Monday morning at their home in Anaheim, California.
Herminia is originally from the mountain province in the Philippines. Her only relative in the US -- a sister -- is expected to arrive to be with her nephews within the week, police said.
The couple's 5-year-old son, Bucky, told police that his father tried to kill the whole family before turning the gun on himself.
Bucky was unharmed but his 3-year-old brother, Nicky, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and is still in the hospital in Orange County.
The children are currently under the case of Child Protective Services.
There are reports that the couple were undergoing financial hardship and their home was scheduled for auction in April.
The family's neighbors are still in shock. They said the mother was kind though she kept to herself most of the time.
“She was quiet, she played with kids outside. They’re good people. I didn’t expect anything like that,” said another neighbor, Lanette Maldonado.
Records indicate the Zickefoose family started missing payments on their house early last year and filed for bankruptcy last February.
“Maybe it was more than just financial problems I don't know. I just hope that they (children) recede and come out of it. They’re pretty young and hopefully they’ll go to good relatives… It’s just sad they lost their mom and dad, it really is,” said neighbor Roger Tafolla.
People who have heard of this heartbreaking story have been contacting the Anaheim Police Department wanting to leave donations for the children.
But until a family member has been designated to administer the funds, the police cannot accept those donations at this time. Balitang America
