LONDON - It was a story of online seduction and senseless murder. A man and a woman met online, then he seduced her, emptied her bank account and murdered her.

He used her cash to splurge on wine for another girlfriend while her body was stored in his garage.

She was dumped in a dried-up pond in Kent. Her body, disposed inside a suitcase, was discovered by a dog walker. (Related Story: Pinay care worker's body found in suitcase)

Ten months after the murder, the man charged for murdering Filipino care assistant Leah Questin is jailed for life.

Thirty-six-year-old Clinton Bailey of South-East London was found guilty and sentenced to serve at least 30 years in jail.

Bailey had no steady job and had serious money problems. He was described by a source as a ‘conman’ who ‘lied through his teeth’. He was reported to have posed as a BBC executive and seduced women he met on the Internet.

In an advert he placed online, Bailey described himself as a "very intelligent 33-year-old" – with an e-mail address starting "hi.iq.146" – looking for a woman from the Philippines.

Reports said Questin, who worked at Lansdowne Care Home in Cricklewood, fell into the trap and responded to the ad. She was last seen alive on September 12.

‘Senseless killer’

Judge Gerald Gordon who heard the case was quoted as saying: "What he did with her body was dreadful but clearly pales into insignificance compared with the fact that he murdered her. That murder was clearly done for gain."

Bailey admitted getting rid of Questin's body but his barrister, Bernard Richmond QC, said that while his client was "prone to dishonesty and deception", it could not be proven that he was the one who killed her. But the jurors rejected this.

In a message sent to ABS-CBN Europe News Bureau, Consul General Tess Dizon-De Vega said Questin’s family is very pleased with the verdict, which came in time for Lea’s birthday. She would have been 38 years old last June if she were alive.

“She didn't deserve the grim and tragic circumstances that led to her death. She became the unfortunate victim of a mad and senseless killer," Questin’s sister, Alda Magdalena Questin-Esta, said
