MANILA – The family of a Filipino engineer killed in a freak accident last month in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia will receive assistance from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), labor chief Rosalinda Baldoz said on Friday.

Engineer Albert Valencia Bautista was killed in a vehicular accident last June 4, 2014. His body was chopped into five pieces. His remains were repatriated to his hometown in Santana, Capitangan, Bataan.

"I already asked the POLO in Jeddah to immediately send us a report on the police investigation and to give us an update on the salaries and benefits that the OFW must receive from his company," Baldoz said.

Bautista was deployed to Saudi Arabia in 2010 by Pert/CPM Manpower Exponents Co. Inc. He renewed his OWWA membership last May 15, 2012 under a 12-month contract.

"His OWWA membership is not up-to-date, but I have already instructed OWWA Administrator [Rebecca] Calzado to reconsider OFW Bautista’s case so he may receive death and funeral benefits,” Baldoz said.

Baldoz also said that POLO-Jeddah will closely monitor the developments of the case and to constantly provide the department with updates on the case.
