Fil-Ams celebrate PH-American Friendship Day
VIRGINIA BEACH, VA - For Filipinos here, the fourth of July is more than just fireworks and barbecues. It’s a day to commemorate the independence of the Philippines from the Japanese occupation at the end of World War II--thanks to the joint cooperation of Filipino and American forces.
Also known as the Philippine-American Friendship Day (PAFD), the event was celebrated with a parade at the Red Wing Park in Virginia Beach last Sunday.
PAFD Chairman, Joe Ortega said, “The significance of this event is to get together all Filipinos so we can showcase our culture”.
Virginia Beach School Board Chairman said the Philippine-American relations are stronger than ever.
US veteran Rodney Seymour said, “The idea behind it is to celebrate the friendship of two countries. It’s stronger than ever, especially with the Spratly Island (issue).”
The summer heat did not stop thousands of kababayans from joining this annual parade and cultural celebration.
One of the event’s highlights was the TFC hour, where Adobo Nation’s very own Chef Ron Bilaro serenaded his fans.
The back to back diva performances of “The Voice” finalist Cheesa and the Crystal Voice of Asia Sheryn Regis wowed TFC fans.
