Protest vs Arizona's anti-immigration law at MLB
NEW YORK – Dozens of anti-Arizona immigration law activists protested in front of the Major League Baseball’s (MLB) Park Avenue headquarters in New York at noon on Thursday.
Pro-immigrant activists in New York said the 2011 Major League Baseball All-Star game should not be played in out of Phoenix, Arizona unless the state repeals its anti-immigrant laws.
“We’re not protesting baseball, we’re protesting having it in Arizona, the SB1070 Law is racist, it’s racial profiling on its face and it hurts the economy,” Elizabeth Ouyang, an Asian American Civil Rights leader said.
Activists said Arizona does not deserve the millions of dollars that will be pumped into its economy thanks to the Major League Baseball’s All-Star Games.
“Now is not the time when we can allow an all-star game in a state that is enacting one of the most un-American laws ever seen,” one protester said.
Just a stone’s throw away from the MLB protest, a small group showed supporters of Arizona’s controversial new immigration policy.
“Suportado ko itong (Arizona) law na ito kasi naghirap na akong kumuha ng green card ko,” Radie Domingo, a Filipino immigrant said. Balitang America
