REDWOOD CITY, California – Lotis Key, the former girlfriend of Dolphy, mourned the demise of the Philippines' Comedy King, along with the rest of the Filipino people.

“He’s gone. For this reason, or that, they say he may not be eligible for coveted national recognition. I’m sure he would laugh at the thought,” Key said in a statement she sent to Balitang America.
She also said though Dolphy’s eligibility for National Artist is still in contention, he has been awarded a higher prize: the unconditional love of Filipinos.
“For over sixty years he’s possessed the biggest award his country has to offer. One that no politician, businessman, or preacher has yet been able to win--the unconditional love of the Filipino people,” she said.
For Key, there is only one Dolphy, or Rodolfo Vera Quizon Sr. in real life.
“An intelligent, gracious, and unique man has passed on, and I mourn with all those who love him. In the Philippines, there will never be another movie or stage artist like Dolphy."
She added, “That is sad, because now of all times, we need the comforting release into laughter and silliness that he instinctively provided for us. However, the times that shaped him have passed, and will not come again”.
“My sincere condolences to his loved ones, and I pray the peace that surpasses all understanding, be with them during this wrenching time of loss."
