First-ever Barrio Fiesta held in Oslo

OSLO - Around a thousand Pinoys and Norwegians gathered for the first-ever Barrio Fiesta in the Nordics last Saturday.
The biggest gathering of Pinoys in Norway’s capital included a search for Ms. Gay Amazing Nordic 2014, a competition for best Philippine folk dance group and a mini-concert with singer Erik Santos.
Seven candidates vied for the title of Ms. Gay Amazing Nordic, who wore regional costumes and evening gowns, won the crowd over.
The competition was made in cooperation with the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) Filipino Norwegian group, a gay rights advocate organization for Pinoys in Norway.
Nami Otohime aka “Katrina Halili” was named Ms. Gay Amazing Nordic. Sammie Ivie, aka “Jessica San Juan” and Fran Kasten, aka “Angelica Panganiban, won 1st runner up and 2nd runner up, respectively.
Otohime also won Best in Fantasy Costume with her fiery red Sarimanok outfit, and Best in Talent for a mask dance number. Best in Evening Gown award went to Chloe Marie Colobong, aka “Ariana” and Ms. Popularity was won by Ella Marie Lee.
The Ms. Gay Nordic search was hosted by veteran pageant host, Monching Ceniza Cañete from Iceland, the Navigaytour duo, Arnie Quiblatin and Dexter Romero from Norway and directed by Sanny Gipgano from Norway.
The Drammen Filipino Dance Group (DFDG) won a 3,000 kroner prize and a trophy as best dance group.
Meanwhile, Santos told ABS-CBN Europe that he was happy to be part of the first-ever Barrio Fiesta in the Nordics.
The Kapamilya singer thanked all the TFC subscribers and Pinoys who came to the fiesta.
“Sana magkita-kita po tayo sa mga susunod pang Barrio Fiesta dito sa Norway,” Santos told the crowd.
