MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine embassy in Baghdad has identified the Filipina fatality in a hotel fire in Iraq.

In a statement, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) identified the fatality as Maricar Cente, a Filipina working with the Asiacell mobile company based in Sulaymaniyah City.

The Filipina was at the hotel Soma in Sulaymaniyah City when a fire occurred on Thursday evening.

Her husband has been notified of her passing.

DFA spokesman Ed Malaya said Cente's remains were set to be repatriated on Saturday afternoon (Iraq time).

Her remains will leave Sulaymaniyah via a chartered flight for Beirut en route to Dubai and then to Manila, the DFA said.

Two overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) survived the fire.

Morelo 'Joshua' Ermitano is recuperating at a hospital from a broken leg, while Richie Salceda was discharged from the hospital on Friday.

The DFA said a Filipino volunteer in the Kurdistan region is providing assistance to the two injured Filipinos.

The fire killed 29 people, nearly half of whom were foreigners, the DFA said.

It reportedly began late Thursday night in the Soma hotel and was sparked by an electrical short from a nearby furniture store.

Among the dead were 4 women and four children.
