MANILA, Philippines - The remains of the overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who died in a fire at a posh hotel in Iraq arrived on Wednesday afternoon.

The body of Maricar Cente arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) international cargo terminal on board Qatar Airways flight QR 646 at around 4:05 p.m. from Abu Dhabi.

Cente, who worked for Asiacell Mobile Company, died last Friday after Hotel Soma, located in Sulaymaniyah City, Northern Iraq, burst into flames. Asiacell Mobile had an office in the hotel.

Maricar's family and Ali Mahdi, a representative of Asiacell Mobile, waited for her remains at the NAIA 1 cargo terminal.

Mahdi said the repatriation was delayed due to lack of documents that were needed for the repatriation.

Mahdi said met Maricar in 2007 in Afghanistan where she was also working for a telecommunications company.

He asked her to move to Asiacell. In June 2009, Maricar started working in Iraq until her untimely death last July 16.

Two Filipinos, Morelo Ermitano and Ritchie Salcedo, were injured in the fire. Ermitano suffered a broken leg, while Salcedo was immediately discharged from the hospital.

A total of 28 people died in the inferno, around half of whom were reportedly foreigners. -- with a report from Zyann Ambrosio, ABS-CBN News
