PH consulate in Barcelona closes
BARCELONA, Spain – Filipino community leaders expressed disappointment with the closure of the Philippine consulate in Barcelona.
The consulate ceased its operations on July 31, as part of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) efforts to reallocate its resources to other countries where there is greater need.
Consul General Catalino Delim and other consulate officials will be transferred to the Philippine Embassy in Madrid. He, however, explained that a diplomatic staff will serve as an honorary consul in the area.
“I do hope that the DFA, including the president of the Philippines, could help us,” said another Pinay, Juliette Perez.
Delim assured Filipinos that consular services will not be affected with the closure of the Barcelona consulate.
The Blas F. Ople Policy Center is also appealing to the Philippine government to take into consideration the welfare of Filipinos based in Barcelona. Report from Daniel Tuano, ABS-CBN Europe News Bureau
