Fil-Canadian magician lives his dream
VANCOUVER - A young Filipino-Canadian is living his dream of doing magic in the streets.
Mark Beltran has been interested in magic since he was a kid. But it was a backpacking trip to Australia where he watched an amazing magic show on the street that did the trick.
“I think I can do that with a few card tricks that I know. So right then, I went to the park and I did magic,” he said.
Taking inspiration from David Blaine, Beltran studied magic in the Philippines and practiced with numerous books, tapes and DVDs.
“If you do it on the streets, its really hard because you have to gather them, you make them stay,” he said.
What started out as a hobby became small acts during birthdays and weddings. Today, he joins about 300 other licensed street performers that do their rounds in the city.
“I'm trying to live my dream This is the only way I know how,” he said.
Beltran is one of the many street performers found on the popular Granville Island during sunny days.
