DFA raises Alert Level 3 in Egypt
MANILA – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Thursday raised alert level 3 over Egypt following the escalating civil unrest in the country.
The alert level was also raised in view of the declaration of a month-long State of Emergency in Egypt.
"Alert level 3 entails the voluntary repatriation of Filipinos in Egypt," the DFA said in a press release.
The DFA also suspends the deployment of new workers, as well as the return to Egypt of vacationing workers, spouses of Egyptian nationals, Islamic University students and their dependents.
Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario has instructed the Philippine Embassy in Cairo to assist in the repatriation of Filipinos who wish to return to the Philippines.
According to the DFA, there are around 6,000 Filipinos in Egypt.
