MANILA – The 2013 Search for the Ten Outstanding Expat Pinoy Children has been extended until September 30, 2013, the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) announced on Wednesday.

BPI said the extension will give opportunity to more college students to join the nationwide search, especially those who have been affected by the bad weather.

“Children of overseas Filipinos have become more aware of the sacrifice that their parents have endured just to sustain their family. The annual Search has rallied students nationwide as an avenue for them to give back to their parents abroad. We’ve extended the opportunity for more applicants to join because we understand their eagerness in making their parents proud,” says Roy Emil S. Yu, BPI’s Senior Vice President and Overseas Customer Segment and Remittance Head.

Already on its 7th year, the contest is among the significant initiatives of BPI for the overseas Filipino community.

The Search honors the exemplary achievements in the academic and non-academic fields of OFW’s children.

The 10 winning children will be awarded in categories such as Ibang Klaseng Talino, Ibang Klaseng Community Leader, Ibang Klaseng Entrepreneur, and Ibang Klaseng Artist/Athlete, at a ceremony where awardees will be receiving their respective trophies and a cash prize of P50,000 credited to a BPInoy Savings Account.

Applicants who are qualified to join based on the Search’s guidelines must submit an essay, either in English or Filipino, answering the following topic: “Overseas migration has its gains and pains. As the daughter/son of an OFW, how can you help optimize the economic gains of your parent’s employment overseas and minimize the social risks that your family faces due to distance and years of separation?”

The essay must be typewritten, double-spaced, and must contain at least 1,000 words but not more than 1,200 words.
