Meet Fil-Am actress on US soap 'General Hospital'
HOLLYWOOD - A Filipino-American Hollywood actress wants to produce Filipino projects not just for her, but for other Pinoys in the business.
In an interview with ABS-CBN, Jelynn Sophia, who has a recurring role in the hit soap opera "General Hospital," said that her dream is to create other opportunities for "kababayans" in Hollywood.
"It's been my goal since the beginning to represent Filipinos, to open up the doors for Filipinos in Hollywood and to inspire more writers, producers and studios to create more roles for Filipinos," she said.
"My ideal situation would be to produce a show where there are Filipino characters and leads," Sophia added.
Sophia was recently cast as a Filipino fallen angel in a 2013 web series, "The Record Keeper."
"I have found that if you own your color, if you own your ethnicity, if you rock it proudly...you're actually opening their [producers] eyes to something else instead of trying to be something that you're not," Sophia said.
Sophia also said that it was her Filipino attributes that got her the role in General Hospital
"When I auditioned for this recurring role, I went all the way. I rocked my Filipino spicy, sassy attitude," she admitted.
