MANILA – Have you ever wondered how much a Philippine ambassador makes?
The Commission on Audit (COA) released a report that detailed the amount of the basic salary and allowances received by government officials, including heads of overseas posts.
The COA Report on Salaries and Allowances CY 2012 was submitted to President Aquino and to Congress on April 30, 2013 by Chairperson Gracia Pulido-Tan.
Below is the list of top 10 ambassadors who received the highest amount of combined basic salary and allowances:

The report also included two controversial officials of the Department of Foreign Affairs who were posted abroad.
Consul General Jose Ampeso and Ambassador Shulan Primevera (Kuwait) received 5,719,820.17 and 4,454,160.18 respectively.
Ampeso, who was assigned in Canada, received a basic salary of P611,496 and allowances amounting to 5,108,324.17 while Primavera got a basic salary of P651,798.00 and allowances worth P3,802,362.18
Ampeso became controversial when a video of him, allegedly drunk, went viral. The video shows Ampeso berating a Filipino who was renewing his passport during a consular outreach mission in Red Deer, Alberta.
Primavera, on the other hand, was recalled from his post and has been charged with sexual harassment and illegal hiring of wards.
The Report's data were gathered from the quarterly reports of COA's field auditors.
In a press statement issued, COA explained the differences in salaries and allowances received by government officials.
"Differences in salaries and allowances received by the government officials are dependent on the nature and complexity of their respective agencies, including allowances for maintenance of overseas operations and security concerns as well as those holding multiple positions," COA said.
