96 Filipino repatriates to arrive from Syria
MANILA – A total of 96 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) will arrive on Friday from Syria, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said.
"46 of them will arrive at 4:20 pm aboard Cathay Airways QR flight 646 and 50 more will arrive at 11:10 pm via Etihad Airways tonight," DFA Spokesperson Assistant Secretary Raul Hernandez said.
Hernandez said another batch of 41 OFWs from Syria will arrive next week.
"By September 10, the number of Filipinos repatriated from Syria will reach to about 4,728 OFWs and most of them are undocumented," he said.
The Philippine government has intensified its campaign to encourage Filipinos who are still in Syria to come home as soon as possible for their own safety and security.
Filipinos who wish to be repatriated will be brought to Beirut as soon as they receive their exit visas from the Syrian Government in order to ensure their safety.
"We urge our citizens in Syria to get in touch with the Embassy or the Honorary Consul in Aleppo.
Ambassador Nestor Padalhin in Damascus and Ambassador Leah Basinang-Ruiz in Beirut are closely coordinating their efforts to facilitate immediate repatriation of Filipinos from Syria," he said.
