41 OFWs to arrive from Syria
MANILA –The Philippine embassies in Damascus and Beirut are cooperating with each other for cross-border repatriation of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) from Syria.
A total of 41 overseas Filipino workers will be arriving in Manila on Tuesday afternoon. The repatriates will arrive at 3:20 p.m. on board Etihad Airways flight EY 424.
With their arrival, the number of Filipinos repatriated from Syria will reach 4,741.
Last week, 96 OFWs were safely repatriated to Manila.
Philippine Ambassador to Lebanon Leah Basinang-Ruiz expressed satisfaction at the seamless cooperation among the embassy, POLO (Philippine Overseas Labor Office) and OWWA (Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) officers and staff.
"All pitched in to ensure that the embassy’s job to receive the OFWs from Syria, care for them temporarily in the shelters and ensure their speedy departure out of Lebanon were well executed without a hitch,” said Ruiz.
She also commended the Lebanese government for its help.
