Deportation order for Lanuza signed
AL-KHOBAR, SAUDI ARABIA – The Deportation Order for Rodelio “Dondon” Lanuza was signed by His Royal Highness Prince Saud bin Naif bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud, Governor of the Eastern Province, yesterday afternoon, September 11, 2013 (Saudi Arabia time).
This was confirmed by Ambassador Ezzedin H. Tago through a text message to the ABS-CBN Middle East News Bureau.
This means pending the issuance of an exit visa and booking for a flight back home, Lanuza's 13-year ordeal comes to a close and he will be his family back home.
Lanuza was supposed to fly back to Manila on September 10, 2013, but the flight was cancelled due to a mistake in an earlier order.
The order was for the “release of Mr. Lanuza." But the police case officer informed the Jawasat or Passport Department (of Saudi Arabia) that the order from the Emir (Governor) should specifically state the Lanuza “should be deported to his home country."
A draft new order for the “deportation” was immediately prepared by the Public Rights Section of the Governor’s Office.
Lanuza has been in jail since August 2000 and was sentenced to death in 2001 by qissas or beheading for killing a Saudi National.
He was pardoned by the victim’s family by signing the tanazul or letter of forgiveness after receiving the Blood Money amounting to SAR 3 million.
His Royal Highness King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud agreed pay for SAR 2.3 million as the Philippine Government and supporters of Dondon was only able to raise SAR 700,000
