SANTA BARBARA - It was an emotional day in Santa Barbara as hundreds filled Saint Raphael’s Catholic Church to say goodbye to a young life lost in a tragic murder.

Alexandra Tang, 24, whom police believe was stabbed to death by her boyfriend on Labor Day weekend, was laid to rest last Friday.

Many came to show their support to members of the Tang family who are active in the Santa Barbara Filipino community. Alexandra herself was well loved by the community.

Many of those at the funeral wore special purple wristbands made in Tang’s honor.

“Purple and green were her favorite colors so we wanted to have a little sign of her with us and so that people will continue to have a little bit of piece of her with them. And the wristbands say Alexandra Tang forever in our hearts. We want people to wear these with fond memories of her,” her sister Candice said.

Since Alexandra’s death, the Tangs have been asking the community to keep her memory alive by donating to Domestic Violence Solutions of Santa Barbara, a non-profit that deals with education, assistance, and prevention of domestic violence.

“We don’t want my daughter’s death to be in vain so we’re hoping people donate to domestic violence solutions to help prevent this from happening every year,” her father Alex Tang said.

The family declined to speak about Derek Pinski, Alexandra’s boyfriend and now murder suspect. Instead the Tangs wanted to focus on celebrating the life of Alexandra.
