CANADA – Filipinos in Calgary recently raised funds for kababayans who were affected by flooding in the Philipines.

Local talents were gathered for a mini concert called “Hawak Kamay para sa Pinoy”, with proceeds from tickets sale donated to ABS-CBN’s Sagip Kapamilya.

There were performances by singers, dancers and musicians.

Local artists shared their time and talents for a great cause because for them, the Philippines will always be home.

"Home reminds me of the Philippines because I was born there and my parents moved to Canada when I was 6 years old and i've been back a few times already,” said one of the performers, Brian Ymbang.

Although Ymbang has no relatives affected by the typhoon, he still wanted to help because that's what his family in Manila did.

For the organizers, helping kababayans is a must for all Pinoys everywhere.

“We believe as Filipinos here in Calgary, we do not have to exactly have a family who has been a victim of flooding. What we want to do is, whether we have family or not, we will always be willing to help our fellow Filipino," head organizer Connie Kriaski said.

Aside from the performaces, there were also a raffle draw and an auction to augment the fund raising effort.
