Pinoys welcome news of John Paul II's sainthood
ROME, Italy – Filipinos welcomed Pope Francis' announcement on his approval to canonize two popes, John Paul II and John XXIII.
Pope John XXIII became head of the Roman Catholic Church from October 1958 until his death in 1963 while Polish Pope John Paul II, who is very close to Filipinos' heart, was said to have performed two miracles.
Napakabait niya at matulungin sa tao," said Carlita Plata.
The first of two miracles of John Paul II involved French nun, Sister Marie Simon-Pierre Normand, who recovered from Parkinson's disease.
After Pope John Paul II's beatification, another miracle was uncovered, this time involving a woman from Costa Rica who got well from battling brain illness after praying to him.
Plata's friend was also happy with the announcement.
The two popes will be declared saints on April of next year. The event is also expected to draw thousands of Catholic devotees to Rome. Report from Jocelyn Ruiz-Roxas, ABS-CBN Europe News Bureau
