DHAHRAN, Saudi Arabia – Filipino scuba diving enthusiasts and their families recently held a coastal clean-up in Dhahran.
The Guardians Reformists Group, Inc. and the International Scuba Diving Association (ISDA) converged to gather sacks of garbage, mainly plastic materials, from a coastal beach in Dhahran.
According to its website, Project Aware is an international organization that conserves underwater environments through education, advocacy and action.
“Part po ng aming program ay para ma-maintain yung past time na makita naming maganda yung ilalim,” said diving instructor, Reginald Reyes.
The Filipino scuba divers, numbering around 200 in Eastern Saudi, are also coordinating with diving groups from different countries to further promote their environmental projects.
They also participate in scuba diving sports competitions in Saudi Arabia.
The event also saw the support from the diver’s families who prepared food and drinks for the clean-up participants.
Dinan Arana, ABS-CBN Middle East News Bureau
